Nicks, Boasts and European Hosts

Three of Windsor’s top Junior Squash players, David Mill, Berto Mill and Stefan Houbtchev were offered a chance of a lifetime to compete in 2 events in the European Junior Squash Super Series this summer.  The Super Series attracts some of the top Junior Squash players from across the world and allows participants eligibility for a World ranking.

The boys would first compete in the Pioneer Cup in Cologne, Germany.  Despite this event being the first that David, Berto or Stefan have played in outside of North America, they performed incredibly well.

In the under 13 division, Berto Mill had a very impressive tournament and finished in the 20th spot.   Berto has a limited number of competitive matches against players of his own age and it is obvious that he is improving by leaps and bounds with every one.

David Mill was equally impressive in the under 15 division.   Because of David’s lack of international competition, he was placed in the B tier.  He quickly showed that he belonged in the top division as he dismantled his first 3 opponents, before losing a very tough match in the Semi Finals.

For Stefan Houbtchev, this event was truly an international one.   While on his way to securing the 21st spot overall in the Under 15 division, Stefan did battle with 2 players from the USA, 1 from France, 1 from Denmark, 1 from Finland and 1 from Germany.   Of course 21st place is a very strong performance, never the less, Stefan could easily have moved up a few spots as he lost a very close 5 game match to the eventual 17th place finisher.

Next up for the Windsor trio will be the Dutch Junior Open, which starts July 7th in Amsterdam.  Good luck boys!  We’re all rooting for you!
