Anna and personal trainer  Erin Porter after the Tampa Bay Gasparilla 1/2 Marathon on March 4, 2012.  Anna ran a personal best 2:26 and Erin completed  in 1:41.  It was a great race, with a pirate theme.  Both Erin and Anna took time to celebrate and enjoy the post race sun.

Erin is a 3 time IronMan and has been helping her clients achieve their fitness goals for over 10 years.  She runs a very popular half-marathon clinic that leads into the Detroit Free Press Marathon in October.  Check back here or on our facebook page (www.facebook.com/windsorsquashfitness) as the running group will start up again in the spring

Tri’ing to Make a Difference

Monday, August 15th, 2011

In addition to being an active exerciser, long time member, Heather Douglas has also been a great role model for young people.  For the past 5 years, Heather has been a youth mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters and has worked with at-risk youth to develop social competencies, self-esteem, positive decision-making and problem solving skills.

Never one to shy away from a challenge, Heather has issued a pretty serious one to herself.  She has commited to completing the 2012 Ironman triathlon in Lake Placid next June.  Even more noteworthy, is that she has decided to seize this opportunity in order to raise funds for a cause that is both worthy and dear to her heart.  Heather has pledged to not only complete the Lake Placid Ironman, but also raise a goal of $14 000 to support youth mentoring through the United Way.

If you would like to support Heather in her challenge, you can click her for more details and ways to support.  Also, you can help spread the word, by “liking” this post on facebook.

Good luck Heather.  We’re all cheering for your success!

Nicks, Boasts and European Hosts

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Three of Windsor’s top Junior Squash players, David Mill, Berto Mill and Stefan Houbtchev were offered a chance of a lifetime to compete in 2 events in the European Junior Squash Super Series this summer.  The Super Series attracts some of the top Junior Squash players from across the world and allows participants eligibility for a World ranking.

The boys would first compete in the Pioneer Cup in Cologne, Germany.  Despite this event being the first that David, Berto or Stefan have played in outside of North America, they performed incredibly well.

In the under 13 division, Berto Mill had a very impressive tournament and finished in the 20th spot.   Berto has a limited number of competitive matches against players of his own age and it is obvious that he is improving by leaps and bounds with every one.

David Mill was equally impressive in the under 15 division.   Because of David’s lack of international competition, he was placed in the B tier.  He quickly showed that he belonged in the top division as he dismantled his first 3 opponents, before losing a very tough match in the Semi Finals.

For Stefan Houbtchev, this event was truly an international one.   While on his way to securing the 21st spot overall in the Under 15 division, Stefan did battle with 2 players from the USA, 1 from France, 1 from Denmark, 1 from Finland and 1 from Germany.   Of course 21st place is a very strong performance, never the less, Stefan could easily have moved up a few spots as he lost a very close 5 game match to the eventual 17th place finisher.

Next up for the Windsor trio will be the Dutch Junior Open, which starts July 7th in Amsterdam.  Good luck boys!  We’re all rooting for you!

Feel free to leave some words of encouragement in the comments section.
